Volunteer at The IHSA State Track Meet

Step 1: Overview

3 Steps to Volunteer at State: 1. Read the Overview (This Page!) 2. Register on the site 3. If you are a coach, sign up your athletes. If you are a regular volunteer, sign yourself up! Show up to Charleston on Thursday afternoon, and check in at the Volunteers tent!

The pinnacle of competition for high school athletes in Illinois happens at The Big Blue Track of Eastern Illinois University in Charleston Illinois, and we need YOUR help to make it happen!

Meet workers/volunteers will receive a workers pass, lunch and snacks, and an official state meet worker t-shirt. And, a great opportunity to watch the state meet from an "on the field" vantage point!

A Typical work assignment would be raking the long jump pit, retrieving the discus, or shot put, moving the starting blocks, or helping with the awards. Ideally, we would like to assign a particular event (i.e., the long jump, starting blocks, discus, etc.) to a specific team and its volunteers (preliminaries and finals). When that event is complete, that team is done working.

Also, all volunteers will get to run for free in the Open Races at the state meet, held on Friday Night!!

When to report:45 minutes before your scheduled event begins. Meet schedules are posted on the IHSA website (see links above)

Where to report: volunteers should enter the track using the small volunteer/worker gate, located behind the big scoreboard on the southeast corner of the stadium. walk down the sidewalk and report the table where volunteers will be checked in to receive your worker pass, t-shirt and final instructions

We are still looking for several volunteers to fill available positions with some of the field events on both Friday and Saturday. If needed, we may switch some volunteers from their desired positions to fill in where needed. If you know of anyone else who can volunteer, please have them sign up as soon as possible!
