PEORIA, Ill. – Eastern Illinois men's and women's cross country turned in a second consecutive strong performance to open the season as both programs placed second at the Bradley Intercollegiate.
The EIU women placed second as a team paced by senior
Maria Baldwin who was second overall in the 3-mile race with a time of 17:07.4 Bradley won the women's event followed by EIU, Milwaukee, Western Illinois, Green Bay and Chicago State.
Kate Bushue placed 11th for the Panthers with a time of 17:42.5.
Ali Gutt was 14th with a time of 17:58.1
Grace Rowan and
Sadie Elliott were the final two EIU scored runners. Rowan had a time of 18:08.9 good for 16th place. Elliott was 20th with a time of 18:20.3.
On the men's side freshman
Dustin Hatfield continued his strong early season push as he placed third overall for an EIU men's team that placed second at the meet. Host Bradley won the meet followed by EIU, Milwaukee, Green Bay, Chicago State and Western Illinois.
Hatfield's time was 25:23.1 as EIU's top five runners all finished in the top 20 during the 8K race.
Jaime Marcos was ninth with a time of 25:58.3.
Marcus Skinner,
Chris Orlow and
Tyler Lay all finished close together with Skinner in 14th, Orlow in 15th and Lay in 17th.
Skinner's time was 26:21.6. Orlow's time was 26:25.0. Lay's time was 26:42.5 to round out EIU's scored men's runners.
