NEW ORLEANS – Three Eastern Illinois track and field athletes have been named USTFCCCA All-Americans following their competition in the NCAA Outdoor Track and Field National Championships last week. Zye Boey, Jade Riebold and Mick Viken all earned All-American honors.
Boey was a two event All-American earning honors in both the 100m and 200m events. Boey placed 14th in the 100m dash while placing 16th in the 200m as he was named a second team All-American in both events. This marks Boey's fifth All-American track honor while at EIU including three as an outdoor athlete. He finishes his EIU career with the most individual event All-American honors in the history of the program passing Jim Maton who was a four-time All-American. He is tied with Rodney Jackson with five All-American honors with two of Jackson's honors coming as part of relay teams.
Riebold was an honorable mention All-American in the pole vault as she placed 20th at the National Championships. Riebold becomes the first EIU female athlete to earn All-American honors in the NCAA Division I era of the program as she earned honorable mention recognition. She was just the second EIU female athlete to reach the National Championships joining Kandace Arnold who made the championships as a senior in 2010.
Viken earned his first All-American award for EIU competing in the pole vault. Viken was a second team All-American as he placed 12th in the championships. It was the highest finish by an EIU athlete at the NCAA Outdoor Championships since Ron White placed sixth in the javelin in 2002.
