Quarton, McInerney Lead EIU At Louisville

Panther men 20th, women 21st in cross country Saturday meet
 
LOUISVILLE, Ky. - Eastern Illinois men's and women's cross country competed on Saturday in a competitive field at the Greater Louisville Cross Country Open.   The Panther men placed 20th while the EIU women finished in 21st.

Riley McInerney led the EIU men with a time of 25:15.44 placing 70th in the field.  He was followed by Paxson Menard in 73rd with a time of 25:19.08 on the 8K course.  Joe Calio was EIU's third finisher in 117th with a time of 25:41.61.  Ryan Ballard and Derrick Johnson rounded out the EIU scored runners.   Ballard was 164th with a time of 26:12.95.   Johnson was 180th with a time of 26:20.63.   The final two EIU competitors were Mark Pedziwiatr in 210th at 26:46.78 and Brock Ramos in 212th at 26:47.82.

Victoria Quarton was the top EIU women's finisher with a time of 18:15.77 which placed 87th.  Freshman Maria Baldwin was just outside the top 100 in 102nd with a time of 18:22.68.  Julie James was the Panthers third runner with a time of 18:23.95 finishing in 107th.   Emily Brelsfoard and Rachel Garippo rounded out the five EIU scored runners on the 5K course.   Brelsfoard was 131st with a time of 18:33.90 and Garippo was 162nd with a time of 18:51.35.  Ivy Handley was 183rd with a time of 19:01.92 while Michelle Meyerholtz was the final EIU runner in the field in 208th with a time of 19:12.83. 
 
The men's race was won by nationally ranked Wisconsin as the field has 12 regionally ranked men's teams.   EIU was 20th in a field of 28 scored teams.
 
The women's race was won by nationally ranked Wisconsin as the field had 15 regionally ranked women's teams.  EIU was 21st in a field of 32 scored teams.
