Eleven Top Ten Finishes For Track At Meyo Invite

SOUTH BEND, Ind.  - Eastern Illinois track and field faced a solid field of competitors at the Notre Dame Meyo Invite as the Panthers brought home nine top ten finishes in individual events.  Zye Boey picked up another win in the 200m while Jade Riebold passed her own school record in the pole vault.  The Panthers relay teams posted top ten finishes in the 4x400 relay.

Zye Boey continued his excellent senior season with a first and second place finish against a tough field of sprinters.  Boey won his fourth 200m event of the year with a time of 21.12 as the second place competitor crossed at 21.55.  Boey was edged in the 60m dash by Justin Sims of Southern Mississippi.  Sims ran a 6.75 with Boey crossing at 6.77.

Megan Gingerich posted a top eight finish in the 800m against some of the best runners in the region.  Gingerich was 8th with a time of 2:12.16.  Gingerich then ran the opening leg on the Panthers 4x400m relay team.  Gingerich was joined by Bridget SanchezEmily Quinones andErika Ramos as they placed ninth with a time of 3:48.53.  That mark was second fastest in school history and the best time since the 1981 season.

The men's 4x400 relay team posted a fourth place finish as Stefan GorolCody BoarmanJoe Augustine and Sean Wiggan combined to post a time of 3:14.36.  The mark is the sixth fastest in school history.

Donald Romero continued his strong season in field events.  On Friday night he placed second in the weight throw with a mark of 65'9".  That throw moved him into second on the EIU career weight throw list trailing only Braidy Miller in the event.  Miller's school record is 67'0.75" was set in 1991.  Romero came back on Saturday and finished 9th in the shot put with a distance of 51'1.50”

Mick Viken was among six pole vaulters that cleared the 16'11" height on Friday evening.  Four of those athletes including Viken were tied as number of attempts determined the final order for places 3 through 6.  Viken placed sixth.  In women's pole vaulting Jade Rieboldpassed her own school record with a fourth place finish and height of 13'1.75”.  Her teammateAbigail Schmitz was 9th with a height of 12'8”, which ranks second on EIU's career list behind Riebold.

Bryce Hogan was able to break through and crack the EIU career top ten in the long jump.  Hogan was fifth overall and third among collegiate competitors in the event with jump of 23'11.50".  That jump landed him in 10th on the EIU list.

EIU had transportation issues on Friday night with the team bus not arriving in time for some competitors to compete in their scheduled heat.  EIU missed the women's 60m hurdles but the three EIU athletes were able to run their own heat at the end of the night.  Jalisa Paramoreposted a time of 8.81 followed by Justine Moore at 8.99 and Jill MacEachen at 9.13.  Paramore and Moore's times would have qualified for the Saturday finals.

EIU returns to action next weekend at Grand Valley State.
