CHARLESTON, Ill. – Zye Boey and Kandace Arnold, both members of the indoor track team, were named the Eastern Illinois student-athletes of the month for January 2009. Each month during the school year one male and one female student-athlete are recognized for their outstanding performance in their sport.

Boey, a redshirt freshman sprinter from Decatur, Ill., was outstanding during two home meets as he won all four races in which he competed. He was twice named the OVC Track Athlete of the Week. In the 60m dash, Boey set the school record with a time of 6.66 at the Illinois Intercollegiate. That mark ranks fourth in the NCAA this season and was an NCAA provisional time. His winning time in the 200m of 21.52, ranks third on the EIU career list.

Arnold, a junior from Evergreen Park, Ill., was dominant in both throwing events in which she competed. At the EIU Mega Meet, Arnold smashed her own school mark in the weight throw by nearly a foot and a half setting a new standard at 59’09.75”. In the shot put she placed first at the Illinois Intercollegiate. Arnold was named the OVC Field Athlete of the Week one time.
