Track Heads To NCAA Mideast Regional

CHARLESTON, Ill. – Six Eastern Illinois athletes will compete in seven different events this weekend at the NCAA Mideast Regional hosted by the University of Arkansas. Competition begins on Friday, May 30.

EIU will have three men and three women competing in the Regional which takes place at John McDonnell Field.

Chandra Golden will be the first athlete competing in the women’s 100 meter hurdle prelims on Friday afternoon at 4:10 p.m. If she advances the finals are set for 5:45 p.m. on Saturday evening. Golden was the OVC champion in the event setting the school record with a time of 13.70. Golden was 27th at the NCAA Regional last season.

Kandace Arnold will also be in action on Friday night in the women’s discus. The prelims and finals are scheduled for 6:15 p.m. Arnold was the OVC champion in the event this and had a season best throw of 148’03” at the Georgia Tech Invite on May 16. That mark ranks second all-time at EIU.

Arnold will be the Panthers only dual event athlete as she will also compete in the women’s shot put on Saturday at Noon. Arnold was the OVC shot put champion with a personal best of 48’00.00” which ranks second all time at EIU. Arnold placed 21st at the NCAA Regional last season as a freshman.

Dorrian White will be the first EIU men’s athlete in action in the pole vault at 2:45 p.m. on Saturday. White won the OVC title this season with a vault of 16’0. His personal best in the event was as a freshman with a vault of 16’0.75”.

Obe Eruteya, EIU’s top NCAA performer from last season, will be in action at 4 p.m. on Saturday in the triple jump. Eruteya was 7th at last year’s NCAA Regional earning All-Mideast Region honors with a personal record jump of 51’0.25” which is fourth best at EIU. This season Eruteya was second in the OVC but passed the NCAA qualifying mark with a jump of 50’.

Jenna Uhe will compete for the EIU women in the triple jump after earning an NCAA Regional trip in the long jump last season. Uhe was the OVC champion with a jump of 41’1.50” to rank second all time at Eastern Illinois. Last season Uhe was 23rd in the Regional in the long jump. The women’s triple jump is also set for 4 p.m. on Saturday.

Tyler Arnholt rounds out the EIU competitors with the men’s discus at 5:45 p.m. Arnholt won the OVC championship in the event with a personal record throw of 158’04”.
