Basting Leads EIU Cross Country Friday Evening

BLOOMINGTON, Ill. - Eastern Illinois men's cross country turned in a solid performance on Friday evening placing third in the University Division race at the Illinois Intercollegiate meet hosted by Illinois State.  The Panther women placed fifth in the University Division at the meet.

Sophomore Bryce Basting running close to home led the way for EIU placing fourth in the University Division and seventh overall.  Basting covered the 8K course in a time of 24:44 which ranks as the 20th fastest time in EIU history at that distance.  Pablo Ramirez who was the OVC Male Cross Country Runner of the Week last week was 15th overall and 7th among University Division finishers at 24:54.

Danny Delaney was 36th at 25:18 followed by Matt Black in 78th at 26:02 and Doug Mateas in 83rd at 26:07.  Tyler Anderson was 111th at 26:31 and Max Gassmann was 138th at 26:49 to round out the top seven EIU runners.

Olivia Klaus last week's OVC Female Runner of the Week led the way for the Panthers placing 21st overall with a 5K time of 18:13.  Britney Whitehead was just behind in 23rd at 18:17. Elizabeth Dole and Paige Biehler raced to the line with Dole placing 45th and Biehler 46th.  Dole's time was 19:01.  Biehler's mark was 19:03.

Freshmen Amy Yeoman and Quincy Knolhoff placed 52nd and 53rd crossing in 19:05 and 19:06.  Erika Ramos rounded out the top seven EIU finishers in 70th with a time of 19:11.

North Central College was the overall winner of the men's meet while Loyola-Chicago was the top finishing University team placing second overall. EIU was third in the men's University Division and seventh overall.

Illinois won the women's meet scoring 37 points.  EIU was seventh in the combined meet scoring and fifth among University Division women's teams.

EIU returns to action in two weeks at the Louisville Cross Country Invite.
