Arnold Leads EIU In Weekly OVC Track Awards

Panthers take three weekly honors

BRENTWOOD, Tenn. – Kandace Arnold was named the Ohio Valley Conference Outdoor Female Field Athlete of the Week for the second straight week as EIU athletes won three of four conference weekly awards.

Arnold was joined by Shawana Smith who was named the Female Track Athlete of the Week and DeMarcus Brooks who was named the Male Track Athlete of the Week.

Arnold swept three throwing events at last weekend’s Indiana State Invite placing first in the discus, shot put and hammer throw. Her discus toss of 146’05” was a season best for the junior from Evergreen Park, Ill. She hit the NCAA Regional mark in the shot put for the second straight week with a distance of 47’05.75”. In the hammer, Arnold moved up to second on the EIU career list with a toss of 160’09”.

Smith won the 200m dash and placed second in the 100m dash at Indiana State. The junior from Chicago, Ill., posted a winning time of 25.01 in the 200m and 12.44 in the 100m

Brooks was outstanding in his first collegiate outdoor running of two events he domisteeplewebd at the IHSA level. The Springfield, Ill., native won the 100m dash in a time of 10.56 which landed him sixth on the EIU career list. He won the 200m dash in a time of 21.34 which hit the NCAA Regional qualifying time.

EIU returns to action this weekend hosting its only home meet of the outdoor season. The Neil Moore Multi’s take place at O’Brien Field on Thursday and Friday with the Big Blue Classic starting Friday afternoon and running through Saturday.
