Track Heads To Lee Calhoun Memorial

Panthers to compete at Western Illinois

CHARLESTON, Ill. – Eastern Illinois track and field returns to action this weekend as they compete in the 20th annual Lee Calhoun Memorial hosted by Western Illinois. Competition gets underway Friday evening with field events and continues on Saturday in Macomb.

The Panthers are coming off a solid effort in their own Big Blue Classic held last weekend at O’Brien Field. In the meet Eastern Illinois had four athletes hit NCAA Regional marks in their respective events.

Zye Boey was named the OVC Male Track Athlete of the Week after winning the 100m and 200m sprints. Both of his winning times landed in the EIU career top ten and hit the NCAA standard. Teammate DeMarcus Brooks was second in both sprints with his times also hitting the NCAA standard and cracking the EIU top ten in both events.

Ian Winston was named the OVC Male Field Athlete of the Week after placing third in the men’s high jump. His mark was tied for third on the EIU career top ten list and passed the NCAA regional mark.

Violet Nwordu had a solid performance in the women’s 100m and 200m. She was named the OVC Female Track Athlete of the Week after her winning mark in the 100m landed in 8th on the EIU career list. She also ran one leg of the 4x100 relay that won and set a Big Blue Classic meet record.

Kandace Arnold continued her strong showing in field events winning the shot put and passing the NCAA standard for the third straight week. She had a personal best in the event which ranks second all-time at EIU.

Other teams slated to compete at the Lee Calhoun include host Western Illinois, Bradley, Chicago State, Illinois State, Iowa, St. Ambrose University, Ashford University and Augustana.
