Boey Smashes Track Records As A Freshman
Boey

He placed 3rd in his first collegiate race but little did anyone know that was just the tip of the iceberg for redshirt freshman Zye Boey and his record setting campaign for the Eastern Illinois men's track and field team.

In early December, Boey placed third in the 60m dash and first in the 200m dash at the EIU Early Bird Invitational. The 60m time did not crack the Panthers top 10 all-time marks while the 200m time landed in 7th. By the end of the indoor season, Boey had earned national rankings in both events as he set the school record for both with a 60m time of 6.6 and a 200m time of 20.93. Boey helped the Panthers climb to No. 31 in the men's indoor national rankings and earned a trip to the NCAA Indoor National Championships competing in the 200m.

He ended the indoor season as the OVC Male Track Athlete and OVC Male Freshman of the Year, the first athlete to ever capture both titles. He was also named the Male Athlete of the Championships after helping EIU win the indoor crown.

His success continued on the outdoor track as he would again earn two national rankings in the 100m and 200m. Boey would climb to No. 2 on the career 100m chart at EIU with a time of 10.20 while his best effort of 20.91 in the 200m ranked 5th. He would advance to the NCAA Regional in both events and then move on to the NCAA National Championships in the 100m dash.

Boey was the OVC Outdoor Male Track Athlete of the Year and Male Athlete of the Championships after helping EIU sweep both the indoor and outdoor track titles.
