EIU Wins Two OVC Weekly Track Awards

Darren Patterson wins second honor this season

BRENTWOOD, Tenn. – Junior college transfer Darren Pattersonearned his second Ohio Valley Conference Track Athlete of Week Award as the Panthers took home two of the conference’s weekly honors following their performances at this past weekend’s EIU Mega Meet in Charleston. 

Patterson was the top collegiate finisher in the 200m dash finishing in second place overall with a season best and conference best time of 22.03. Patterson also finished third in the 400m dash with a time of 51.47. He capped his day at the meet running a leg of the winning 4x400 relay team that finished at 3:20.53. 

Dorrian White joined Patterson in claiming weekly honors as he was named the co-OVC Field Athlete of the Week after his winning effort in the pole vault. White cleared a season best 15’1.50” as he won the event by nearly a foot over the second place competitor. The vault was the second best mark in the conference this season. 

EIU returns to action this weekend when they host the Illinois Intercollegiate starting at 11 a.m. in Lantz Fieldhouse. Among the schools scheduled to compete are Illinois and SIU Edwardsville.
