Morris Picks Up Day One Win At Iowa State

AMES, Iowa - Eastern Illinois posted a solid opening day effort at the Iowa State Track and Field Classic as the Panthers collected one first place finish while two others moved up the EIU career top ten list.  Action continues Saturday in Ames.

Freshman Graham Morris was the first place finisher competing in the 3,000 meter non-seeded run on Friday afternoon.  Morris won the event with a time of 8:42.18.

Junior Darren Patterson continued to post impressive times in his first season with the Panthers as he placed 8th in the 200m dash.  Patterson was fourth among collegiate entries in the race finishing with a time of 21.76.  That time moved him up to 7th on the EIU career top ten list.

Another transfer Donald Romero cracked the Panther top ten with his effort in the weight throw.  Romero moved into 10th place on the EIU charts with a distance of 54'9.50" which landed him in 31st at Iowa State.

The women's top finisher in Friday events was Brittney Arthur who placed 18th in the 5000 meter non-seeded run with a time of 18:34.94.
