Arnold, Pottinger Win OVC Weekly Track Honor

BRENTWOOD, Tenn. – Two Eastern Illinois track and field athletes were honored on Tuesday as the Ohio Valley Conference Track and Field Athletes of the Week as the Panthers prepare to defend their 2009 men’s and women’s indoor track championships this weekend in Nashville, Tenn.

Lamarr Pottinger, a freshman from Antioch, Ill., placed second in the 60m hurdles with a time of 8.25 at the EIU Friday Night Special which is third best in conference. He also posted a time of 7.35 in the 60m dash as he was named the OVC Male Track Athlete of the Week.

Kandace Arnold, a senior from Evergreen Park, Ill., was awarded her fourth OVC weekly honor as the Female Field Athlete of the Week. At the EIU Friday Night Special, she became the first EIU female athlete to hit the 50-60 club for her career. Arnold placed third in the shot put finishing with a toss of 50-2.50 as she increased her grasp on first place in the EIU record book. She would place sixth in the weight throw with a mark of 60-6.75 again increasing her first place career mark at EIU. Both are currently the best distances in the OVC.
