Arnold, Wiggan Take OVC Track Honors

BRENTWOOD, Tenn. – Kandace Arnold and Sean Wiggan have been named the Ohio Valley Conference Track and Field Athletes of the Week following the Panthers impressive start to the 2010 outdoor season. The Panthers hosted the EIU Invite over the weekend with the women winning all four head-to-head match-ups while the men finished with a 3-1 mark. 

Arnold, a senior thrower from Evergreen Park. Ill., was the OVC Female Field Athlete of the Week after a dominating performance in three throwing events. Arnold picked up a pair of first place finishes and one second place finish at the EIU Invite. In the hammer throw Arnold set the school record with a winning mark of 171’. She also picked up a win in the shot put with a distance of 48’4.25” while her second place effort in the discus landed at 142’3”. Arnold ranks first in the OVC in hammer and shot put. 

Wiggan, a sophomore from Aurora, Ill., added a pair of first place finishes for the Panther men at the EIU Invite as he was named the OVC Male Track Athlete of the Week. He won the 800m run with a time of 1:54.22 which sits as the season best mark in the OVC. He also ran a leg of the Panthers winning 4x400 relay team that posted a 3:16.26, also currently the best mark in the conference. 

EIU returns to action this weekend hosting the EIU Big Blue Classic on Friday and Saturday at O’Brien Field.
