Track Wraps Up California Trip Late Saturday Night

LONG BEACH, Calif. – Eastern Illinois track and field athletes wrapped up action at the Long Beach Invitational late on Saturday evening after three days of competition on the West Coast.

MaKenna Wilson competed in a pair of throws events for the Panthers with her mark in the shot put of 45'1.50" ranking 10th on the EIU career top ten. Wilson added a discus throw of 142'1".

Pedra Hicks had perhaps the busiest day on Saturday as she competed in two meets in the Los Angeles area. In the early afternoon Hicks rank the 100 meter hurdles at the Long Beach Invite posting a time of 14.03 which placed her 15th in the event. In the early evening she was in action at the Mt. SAC Relays running in the 400 meter hurdles college elite race. Hicks finished 12th with a time of 1:01.07.

The EIU men had three athletes competing in two events each at the Long Beach Invite. Joe Smith competed in the long jump and triple jump. He had a long jump mark of 22'1.50". He added a triple jump mark of 47'8.50".

Tadiwa Mhonde and Brandan Lane both competed in the 100 meter and 200 meter sprints in Long Beach. Mhonde had a 100 meter time of 10.88 and a 200 meter time of 21.69. Lane had a 100 meter time of 10.93 and 200 meter time of 21.83.

Clayton Turner rounded out the EIU athletes in action in California with a mark of 51'3.75" in the men's shot put.

EIU returns to action next week sending split groups to the Drake Relays and Louisville Invite.
