Panthers win 19 events, set two school records

CHARLESTON, Ill. – Eastern Illinois track and field picked up 19 first place individual and team finishes along with setting two school records as the Panthers had an impressive showing at the John Craft Invitational on Saturday at Lantz Fieldhouse.  The EIU men posted 13 first place finishes while the women had six first place finishes and the two school records.

Megan Gingerich was first in the 600m dash setting the school record previously held by Alicia Harris.  Gingerich won the event with a time of 1:34.28 as she was .06 hundredths better than the previous record.  Gingerich now owns the school mark in the 600m and 800m.  Sean Wiggan won the men's 600m dash with a time of 1:20.98.

Jade Riebold was the runner-up in the pole vault but cleared 13' to break her own school record set back in December.  Riebold cleared 13'1.50” in the event which was won by Natalia Bartnovskaya of Vincennes with a vault of 13'5.25”.  Mick Viken was the first place finisher in the men's pole vault with a height of 16'7.25”.

On the track Zye Boey picked up a pair of wins in the men's 60m and 200m dash.  Boey won the 60m at 6.76 while his 200m winning time was 21.56 which set a meet record.

Emily Quinones was a multiple time winner in sprints.  Quinones won the 200m and 400m dash while anchoring the first place 4x400 relay team.  Quinones won the 200m with a time of 26.05.  Her winning time in the 400m was 58.96.  She joined with Bridget Sanchez, Gingerich and Erika Ramos to win the 4x400 relay with a time of 3:57.21.

The Panthers swept the men's and women's 800m races.  Bryce Basting won the men's 800m at 1:56.29.  Ramos won the women's 800m at 2:13.26.

Stefan GorolGraham Morris and Tyler Carter rounded out the men's individual running event winners.  Gorol won the 400m with a time of 49.69.  Morris was the men's mile winner at 4:15.18.  Carter placed first in the 60m hurdles at 8.04. 

The EIU men added two relay victories.  Danny Delaney, Basting, Ephraim Dorsey and Morris combined to win the distance medley relay at 10:41.73.   Joe Augustine, Gorol, Cody Boarman and Wiggan were the men's 4x400 winning team with a time of 3:22.01.

Queenie Adeboyejo led the EIU women in field events as she won the triple jump with a leap of 37'1.75”.

The Panther men had three field event wins.  Bryce Hogan won the long jump at 23'8.25”. Tyler Allen won the triple jump at 45'1.75”.  Donald Romero won the weight throw with a mark of 60'6”.

EIU returns to action next weekend at Indiana Relays.
