Cross Country Teams Earn Academic Honor

NEW ORLEANS -  Eastern Illinois men's and women's cross teams earned All-Academic Team honors by the USTFCCCA this week as both squads had a team GPA over 3.00 and participated as a full team in the NCAA Regional. 

EIU men's team posted a 3.47 team GPA and was ranked 15th highest among the 147 schools that were recognized by the national organization.  EIU and Southeast Missouri were the only two OVC schools to be represented on the men's list.  Chattanooga has the highest men's GPA with a 3.81.  Wisconsin was named the Scholar Team of the Year as they won the NCAA Cross Country National Championship and posted a 3.08 GPA.

EIU women's team posted a 3.39 team GPA as 205 schools were recognized.  The Panthers won the 2011 women's cross country championship which was the second title for the program.  EIU joined Eastern Kentucky, Jacksonville State, and Morehead State as the four teams represented from the OVC.  Alabama had the highest women's team GPA at 3.83.  Georgetown was named the Scholar Team of the Year as they won the NCAA Cross Country National Championship and posted a 3.28 GPA.
