Track Sets Two Records At Grand Valley Meet

ALLENDALE, Mich. – Competing in invite events on Friday night at the Grand Valley Big Meet, Eastern Illinois men's and women's track turned in two first place finishes, two school records and eight other performances that landed in the EIU career top ten.

A week after Erika Ramos had her school record in the mile broken by teammate Britney Whitehead; Ramos regained the school mark with a second place finish on Friday night.  Ramos posted a time of 4:47.16, six seconds better than the previous school record.

Calvin Edwards picked up a first place finish for the men as three runners posted times on the EIU career top ten including one matching a school record.  Edwards won the 200m dash at 21.52 which ranks fourth on the EIU career list.  In the 600m run Sean Wiggan placed third as his time of 1:19.70 matched his own school record set in 2012.  Bryce Basting was fourth in the mile run with his time of 4:06.53 ranking fifth on the EIU career charts.

Edwards and Wiggan teamed up with Dominique Hall and Daniel Trevor in the 4x400 relay as the team placed ninth with their time of 3:15.54 ranking ninth on the EIU career list.

Mick Viken picked up another first place finish for the EIU men winning the pole vault with a height of 17'4.50”.  Eric Gordon and Dan Chalus followed finishing in the top seven.  Gordon was third with his height of 16'8.75” ranking third on the EIU career list.  Chalus was seventh clearing 15'9”.

Three EIU women's runners posted marks that landed them in the EIU career top ten. Elizabeth Dole was 33rd in the 5K but her time of 17:51.84 ranks fourth on the EIU career list. Janessa Clay was 19th in the 400m dash with her time of 57.84 ranking sixth on the EIU career list.  Kristen Rohrer was 19th in the 3K with her time of 10:13.80 placing 10th on the EIU career list.

In women's field events Condia Smith had a pair of top ten finishes with her mark in the weight throw landing on the EIU career top ten.  Smith was eighth in that event with a throw of 55'1.50” ranking sixth on EIU's career list.  Smith was 10th in the shot put with a throw of 40'10.50”.

Other top ten finishes turned in the by the Panther women in field events included Jade Riebold placing second in the pole vault clearing 13'4.25” and Annemarie Reid fifth in the pole vault at 12'0.50”.  Maura Cummins was sixth in the high jump at 5'6”.  Jaimee Roy andAngelica Anyaogu were ninth and tenth in the long jump.  Roy had a mark of 17'2.25” with Anyaogu just behind at 17'1.50”.

Other top ten men's finishes turned in by the Panther men in track events on Friday includedPablo Ramirez placing third in the 3K at 8:24.77 and Hall placing 10th in the 60m hurdles at 8.27.  Jake Mitchell and Edwards turned in top ten performances in the 60m dash. Mitchell was third at 6.87.  Edwards was tenth at 6.97.

Other top ten men's finishes turned in by the Panther men in field events on Friday includedDanny Harris placing seventh in the long jump at 22'5”, Sodiq Alliu placing seventh in the triple jump at 43'2.50” and Jared Diaz placing 10th in the shot put with a throw of 46'10.75”.

EIU returns to action next Friday when the Panthers host the EIU Friday Night Special at Lantz Fieldhouse.  The Panthers will host the OVC Indoor Championships on Feb. 22-23 at Lantz Fieldhouse.
