Track Travels East To Miami (Ohio) Meet

CHARLESTON, Ill. – Eastern Illinois track and field continues its 2013 outdoor season this weekend when they travel to Oxford, Ohio for the Miami Redhawks Invitational.  Competition begins at 1 p.m. on Friday with Saturday events scheduled to begin at 9 a.m.

Teams competing in this weekend's meet include Butler (M/F), Cedarville (M/F), Cincinnati (M), Dayton (M/F), Eastern Illinois (M/F), Findlay(M/F), IPFW (M/F), IUPUI (M/F), Malone (M/F), Miami (M/F), Morehead State (M/F), Ohio Northern (M/F), Otterbein (M/F), Shawnee State (M/F), Wright State (M/F), and Xavier (M/F).

The Panthers opened the outdoor season last weekend at the SIU Spring Classic.  Jade Riebold and Britney Whitehead were named the OVC Female Track and Field Athletes of the Week following their season opening first place finishes at that meet.  Riebold won the pole vault and is currently ranked in the top ten in the NCAA.  Whitehead won the steeplechase and ranks in the top 30 in the NCAA.

Additional first place finishes turned in by the Panthers at the SIU meet included Tyler Carterwinning the men's long jump, Bryce Basting winning the men's 1,500m run, Sean Wigganwinning the men's 800m run and David Johansson winning the men's javelin.  Johansson's throw of 204'9” moved him into seventh on the EIU career record list. 

Three female athletes posted EIU career top ten marks at the SIU meet.  Freshmen Annemarie Reid and Kirstie Wieber both posted top ten marks in the women's pole vault.  Reid's height of 11'8.50” ranks sixth at EIU while Wieber is eighth with a vault of 10'6.75”.  Senior Stephanie Peisker had a time of 17:37.44 in the women's 5K which ranks ninth on the EIU career list.
