Track Heads To ISU Redbird Spring Classic

CHARLESTON, Ill. – Eastern Illinois track and field returns to action this weekend with Saturday action at the ISU Redbird Spring Classic in Normal.  EIU will compete at the Drake Relays next weekend and host the OVC Outdoor Track Championships on May 3-4 at O'Brien Field.

EIU is coming off a solid performance at the WKU Hilltopper Relays last weekend.  Jade Riebold and Mick Viken were both named the OVC Field Athletes of the Week for their performances in the pole vault.  Riebold surpassed her own school record with a height of 14'3.25” which currently ranks fourth in the nation.  Viken had a season best height of 17'2.75” which ranks him in the top 40 in the nation.

EIU had four additional first place finishes at the WKU Hilltopper Relays all turned in on the men's side.  Calvin Edwards won the 200m with a time of 21.20.  He was second in the 100m but his time of 10.59 ranks tenth on the EIU career list.  Dominique Hall won the 110m hurdles and Daniel Trevor won the 400m hurdles.  Transfer David Johansson won the javelin for the third straight week.

On the women's side two athletes posted marks that landed them in the EIU career top ten. Annemarie Reid moved into sixth on the EIU career pole vault with a height of 11'9.75”.  Jalisa Paramore moved into fifth on the long jump list with a jump of 19'5.50”. 

In addition to athletes competing at Illinois State this weekend, three athletes will compete at other events looking to increase NCAA Regional qualifying marks.  Riebold will compete in the pole vault at Vanderbilt.  Britney Whitehead and Pablo Ramirez will head to the Mt. Sac Relays.  Whitehead will compete in the women's steeplechase while Ramirez will compete in men's long distance events.
