EIU Track Captures Five First Place Finishes

CHARLESTON, Ill. – The Eastern Illinois University men's & women's indoor track & field teams began their 2015-16 season with their annual Early Bird Meet. Five Panthers earned first place finishes at the Early Bird Meet.

Haleigh Knapp posed as the headliner for the top finishes for Eastern Illinois.  Knapp tied for first place honors in the high jump with Illinois' Kandie Bloch-Jones as the two finished with a mark of 5'10.50."  The mark for Knapp is a new EIU record in the event.

Amy Yeoman cruised in the women's 800-meter run as she finished with a top time of 2:16.05.

Michael Brown led the way for the EIU men's top finishes.  Brown posted a time of 1:56.92 in the 800-meter run, as he set a new indoor PR.

Riley Kittridge out threw the competition in the men's shotput.  Kittridge posted a mark of 50'11.50" in the event.

Davion McManis rounded out the list of top finishes for the Panthers. His distance of 22'11.25" in the men's long jump tied Southeast Missouri's Jacob Kent for the best mark.

EIU earned seven second place finishes in the meet.

Kristen Rohrer finished the women's 3000-meter run with a time of 10:33.59. Bryn Buckwalter threw for a distance of 46'2.50" in the women's shotput. Janie Howse followed that up with a distance of 55'8.50" in the women's weight throw.

Jamal Robinson ended the night with times of 6.86 in the 60-meter dash and 22.51 in the 200-meter dash as both times were second best in their respective events. Calvin Edwards took second place honors in the 400-meter dash with a time of 49.45.

The men's 4x400- meter relay team of Edwards, Michael MillerDerek Williamson, and Ja'Marcus Townsend made some noise to end the night as they almost completed the comeback finish, but fell just short with a second best time at 3:22.59.

The EIU men finished the Early Bird with a second place finish overall out of six teams scored with a final total of 136 points.  The Women posted a solid start with their third place finish amongst the eight teams competing as they scored 100 points overall.

EIU track & field will be back in action again after the New Year as they head to Illinois on January 16.
