Cross Country Hosts Walt Crawford Alumni

CHARLESTON, Ill. - Eastern Illinois men's and women's cross country warmed up for the 2008 season on Saturday night hosting the EIU Walt Crawford Alumni Meet at the EIU Panther Trail.

 

The event named in honor of long time Eastern Illinois track and cross country supporter Walt Crawford was attended by more than 35 EIU cross country/track alumni. The competition featured a 2.1 mile run for the women and 4 mile run for the men.

Recent women's alumnus Nicole Flounders won the women's event with a time of 12:33 followed closely by current Panther junior runner Erin O'Grady at 12:45. EIU alum Kristin Chandler was third at 12:56.

On the men's side, three former All-OVC runners captured the top three spots as Jeff Jonaitis, Kyle O'Brien and Dan Strackeljahn finished 1, 2, 3. Jonaitis crossed at 19:58 with O'Brien at 19:59 and Strackeljahn at 20:08. Current EIU men's senior Brad Butler was fourth at 20:09.

 

The Panthers will host the EIU Panther Open on Friday, Sept. 12 starting at 5 p.m. at the EIU Panther Trail.
