Wednesday, February 12 2020

BRENTWOOD, Tenn. – Eastern Illinois redshirt Sophomore Dustin Hatfield was named the Ohio Valley Conference Male Track Athlete of the Week following his performance at the Notre Dame Meyo Invite last weekend.

This is Hatfield's third OVC athlete of the week award. The first was last spring when he ran the 10,000 at the Mt. Sac Relays and the second was the week of January 18, at the John Craft Invite in the mile.

Hatfield won the 3000 with a time of 8:14.06, which is a personal best time. With that race, he jumps up to number seven on the EIU All-time list and number one in the OVC. He has now been named the OVC Athlete of the week in three different events.

Hatfield becomes the first EIU athlete to win OVC Athlete of the Week twice this year. He has yet to win it in the same event.

EIU returns to action this weekend at the Grand Valley Big State Meet on Friday (Jan. 14). Dustin Hatfield will be the only Panthers to race at the Iowa State Classic in Ames, Iowa on Friday (Feb. 14).

The other OVC weekly award winners included men's field athlete of the week Ethan Poston from SIUE, Women's track athlete of the week Carli Knott from SEMO, and women's field athlete of the week Anya Tonga from SEMO.
