Cross Country Men 8th At Pre-National Meet

Victoria Quarton runs 7th best 6K in school history for the women

TERRE HAUTE, Ind. – Eastern Illinois cross country competed Saturday at the NCAA Pre-National meet hosted by Indiana State in Terre Haute. The Panther men placed eighth competing in the white division while the EIU women were 23rd in the white division race.

Seniors Pablo Ramirez and Mike Hesslau were separated by three spots during the 8K race with both posting top forty finishes. Ramirez was 36th with a time of 25:50.41. Hesslau was 39th with a time of 25:53.18. Freshman Riley McInerney was 47th with a time of 25:58.16. Danny Delaney and Paxson Menard closed out the EIU scored runners finishing in 68th and 69th. Delaney posted a time of 26:15.41 with Menard crossing in 26:15.92. Matt Black and Bryce Basting were the final two EIU runners entered in the race. Black was 100th at 26:40.77. Basting was 103rd at 26:45.60.

On the women's side sophomore Victoria Quarton posted the seventh best 6K time in school history as she placed 54th with a time of 22:06.91. Freshman Emily Brelsfoardwas 112nd with Kelsey Hardimon crossing in 115th. Brelsfoard had a time of 22:52.90. Haridmon posted a time of 22:54.43. Freshmen Julie James and Ivy Handley were the final two EIU scored runners. James was 129th with a time of 23:03.63. Handley was 170th at 23:31.10. Two additional freshmen completed the EIU women's seven runners with twin sisters Ruth Garippo and Rachel Garippo. Ruth was 180th at 23:42. Rachel was 190th at 23:50.33.

The Panthers return to action in two weeks at the Ohio Valley Conference Championships in Morehead, Ky.
