CHARLESTON, Ill. – Eastern Illinois track and field will return to action this weekend competing at the Grand Valley State Big Meet on Friday and Saturday.  The meet will include 18 NCAA Division I schools and more than 2,400 athletes spanning all divisions. 

Competition begins on Friday at 10 a.m. with the men's and women's 5,000m run.  Field events begin at 1 p.m. with the long jump, weight throw and shot put.

EIU currently has five athletes ranked in the top 30 in the nation with six athletes ranked first in the Ohio Valley Conference in their respective events.

Jade Riebold is the highest ranked EIU athlete on the national scene ranking 11th in the pole vault.  Riebold is first in the OVC this season.

Mick Viken is ranked 12th in the nation in the pole vault and first in the OVC.  Teammate Peter Geraghty is ranked 13th nationally in the pole vault.

Johnathan Boey is ranked 26th in the nation in the 60m dash and first in the OVC.

Calvin Edwards, the two-time OVC Male Track Athlete of the Week, is ranked 29th in the nation in the 200m and first in the OVC.  Edwards was also part of the Panthers Distance Medley Relay team that is currently first in the OVC.

Pablo Ramirez is ranked first in the OVC in the 3,000m run while Kristen Paris is ranked first in the women's 800m run this season.

EIU will return home to Lantz Fieldhouse next week to host the EIU Friday Night Special on Feb. 21.
