Track Posts 4 Friday First Place Finishes

ALLENDALE, Mich. - Eastern Illinois track and field opened Friday night action at the Grand Valley State Big Meet with four first place finishes.  The Panther men lead the scored event following nine events while the EIU women sit in sixth place.

Calvin Edwards switched events this week focusing on the 400m dash after winning back-to-back Ohio Valley Conference Male Track Athlete of the Week honors with two straight weeks of first place 200m finishes.  Edwards won the 400m with a time of 47.35 which ranks third best in EIU school history.

Pablo Ramirez won the men's 5,000m race while also posting an EIU career top ten mark.  Ramirez won the event with a time of 14:15.66 which ranks fourth best in school history.

Mick Viken won the pole vault with a season best height of 17'9.25".  Teammate Peter Geraghty was second clearing 17'3.50".

Janie Howse picked up the first place finish for the women winning the Sub-Elite weight throw with a mark of 54'7.50".  Howse was fifth in the shot put with a mark of 41'11".

Johnathan Boey was second in the men's 60m finals with a time of 6.83 while Jalisa Paramore placed 8th in the women's 60m hurdle finals with a time of 8.89.

The EIU women's 4x400m relay team placed fifth in their event with a time of 3:48.64, a mark that ranks third on the EIU career list.  The relay team included Amina Jackson,Dhiaa DeanCassidy Strohl and Ashley Fouch.

Kirstie Wieber was third in the pole vault and Kailey James was fifth in the high jump to round out the women's top five finishers.  Wieber cleared 12'3.50" while James cleared 5'3.25" in their respective events.

Aviance King was third in the men's high jump while David Johansson was fifth in the Sub-Elite weight throw to round out the men's top five finishers.  King cleared 6'8.25".  Johansson had a throw of 56'4".
