Track Set For Illini Twilight On Saturday

Field events begin at 12 p.m. / Track events at 5 p.m.
 
CHARLESTON, Ill. – Eastern Illinois track and field returns to action this weekend as the Panthers will compete on Saturday at the Illini Twilight.   EIU is coming off a solid showing at the WIU Lee Calhoun Memorial Meet as both the Panther men and women won team titles.  EIU posted 18 first place finishes including wins by hurdlers Danny Trevor and Katie Ryan in the featured events of the meet. 
 
On the women's side Ryan won the 100m hurdles with a time of 14.03 as her time ranks fourth on the EIU career list.  Trevor won the men's 110m hurdles with a time of 14.73.
 
In the women's steeplechase Ivy Handley posted a time of 11:20.68 to win the event.  Her time ranks eighth on the EIU career top ten. 
 
Additional individual first place finishes by the EIU women from last week included Anita Saffa in the 100m sprint, Briana Walker in the 200m sprint, Kristen Paris in the 800m run, Kristen Rorher in the 1500m run, Amina Jackson in the 400m hurdles, Jackie Jones in the high jump, Annemarie Reid in the pole vault and Janie Howse in the discus.
 
On the men's side first place individual finishes from last week included Christian Ilunga-Matthiesen in the 100m sprint, Riley McInerney in the 1500m run, Eric Gordon in the pole vault, Kendall Williams in the long jump and David Johansson in the javelin.
 
Entering the weekend EIU has four individuals and two relay teams ranked in the Top 50 in the NCAA West Region.  Norvell Mohammed is ranked seventh in the 200m sprint and 33rd in the 100m sprint.  Ilunga-Matthiesen is ranked 49th in the 100m sprint.  Eric Gordon is ranked 30th in the decathlon.  The Panthers have two men's 4x100 relay squads ranked at 31st and 41st.  On the women's side Whitney Maninfior is ranked 49th in the 10K.
 
Field events for this Saturday will begin at 12 p.m. with running events slated for a 5 p.m. start.  Following the Illini Twilight, EIU will send a small group of athletes to compete at Indiana State next Wednesday in a Tweener Meet with select athletes qualifying for the Drake Relays next weekend.
