New EIU records set for women's high jump and 600-meter run

BLOOMINGTON, Ind. – The Eastern Illinois indoor track & field team got off to a fast start after the first of two days at the Indiana Relays. Two records were broken and 13 top 10 finishes were earned at the conclusion of the first day in Bloomington, Ind.

After setting the school record for the women's high jump to begin the season at the EIU Early Bird Meet, Haleigh Knapp broke the record again, this time with her leap of 5'11.25". Her height of 5'11.25" is currently 10th best in Women's NCAA Division I.

Like Knapp, Dhiaa Dean broke her own record in the women's 600-meter run. Dean finished the 600-meter run in third place overall, but her time of 1:32.91 tops the EIU indoor record charts.

Janie Howse saw her name move up in the EIU record books as well. Howse competed in the shot put and tossed a distance of 46'09" which placed her as ninth best overall. The mark moved her up to fifth in EIU history and second best currently in the OVC.

Teammates Eric Gordon and Calvin Edwards both posted top five finishes in their respective events, and finished with new season best marks. Gordon finished in third place overall in the men's pole vault as he cleared the bar at 15'07.25". Edwards ran the fourth fastest time in the men's 200-meter dash at 21.85.

The EIU men earned a pair of top 10 finishes in both the shot put and 5000-meter run. Riley Kittridge and Adam Kessler competed in the shot put with Kittridge finishing in fifth place at 52'4.5" and Kessler in seventh at 50'8.25". Greg Rogers placed sixth overall in the 5000-meter run at 15:43.35 and Tyler Anderson right behind him in seventh at 15:38.71.

Amina Jackson and Quincy Knolhoff rounded out the list of top 10 finishes for the EIU women after the first day at the Indiana Relays. Jackson crossed the finish line with the eighth best time in the women's 600-meter run with a time of 1:36.21. Knolhoff paced herself to a 10th place finish in the 5000-meter run at 18:43.42.

Davion McManis and Johnathan Boey were the final two EIU men to reach top 10 rankings. McManis leaped a distance of 22'7.75" in the long jump with was the ninth furthest distance. Boey sprinted to a 10th place finish in the 200-meter dash with an ending time of 22.07.

Boey won his heat in the 60-meter dash with his time of 6.80 and has qualified for the finals for the event tomorrow. Anita Saffa qualified for the women's 60-meter dash finals after her heat time of 7.69.

The Indiana Relays will resume tomorrow morning with the women's weight throw and mile set to begin at 10 a.m.
