Track Athletes Named USTFCCCA All-Academic

NEW ORLEANS – Three Eastern Illinois track and field athletes were named to the USTFCCCA All-Academic team selected earlier this week. Tyler Arnholt represented the EIU men's team while Megan Gingerich and Bridget Sanchez were selected on the women's team.

To qualify for the USTFCCCA All-Academic Track and Field Team, the student-athlete must have compiled a cumulative grade point average of 3.25 and have met either of the following athletic standards: for the indoor season, a student-athlete must have finished the regular season ranked in the national top 96 in an individual event or ranked in the national top 48 (collective listing) in a relay event on the official NCAA POP list provided by TFRRS.org; for the outdoor season, a student-athlete must have participated in any round of the NCAA Division I Championships (including preliminary rounds).

Arnholt competed in the discus at the NCAA West Regional this season placing 34th with a throw of 162'3”. Arnholt graduated with a 3.71 in athletic training and was named the EIU Senior Male Athlete of the Year for 2011.

Gingerich competed in the 800m run at the NCAA West Regional placing 30th with a time of 2:09.08. Gingerich holds a 3.81 GPA in communication disorders and was selected as an OVC Scholar-Athlete of the Year recipient for the 2010-11 school year. Gingerich was selected a first team Academic All-District 5 selection.

Sanchez competed in the 400m run at the NCAA West Regional placing 30th with a time of 55.69. Sanchez holds a 4.00 GPA in psychology.
