Track Teams Earn USTFCCCA Academic Honors
Both track teams posted a 3.00 or higher GPA

NEW ORLEANS – Eastern Illinois men's and women's track programs both earned academic recognition this week as the USTFCCCA named its 2010-11 Scholar Teams of the Year. To be recognized a program must have compiled a team cumulative GPA higher than 3.00 for the most recent academic year.

The EIU women were one of five Ohio Valley Conference programs to earn that distinction as the Panthers posted a cumulative 3.25 team GPA for the year. A total of 164 women's teams from the NCAA level were honored for the year with Texas winning the women's indoor scholar team of the year and Oklahoma winning the women's outdoor scholar team of the year. The scholar team of the year is awarded to the highest finishing team at the NCAA Championship with the highest GPA. The overall highest GPA for a team in track was Princeton with a team GPA of 3.68

The EIU men were one of three OVC schools to be honored as they posted a 3.01 GPA for the year. A total of 90 men's teams from the NCAA level were honored for the year with BYU winning the men's indoor scholar team of the year and Florida State winning the men's outdoor scholar team of the year. The scholar team of the year is awarded to the highest finishing team at that NCAA Championship with the highest GPA. The overall highest GPA for a team in track was Richmond with a team GPA of 3.51.

The Panthers recently placed three athletes on the USTFCCA All-Academic list as Tyler ArnholtMegan Gingerich and Bridget Sanchez were honored for their academic and athletic success.
