CHARLESTON, Ill. - Eastern Illinois men's and women's track and field was solid in their first meet of the spring season as they hosted the EIU Mega Meet on Saturday at Lantz Indoor Fieldhouse.

Chandra Golden was a dual winner for the EIU women picking up first place finishes in the 60m hurdles and 60m dash. Golden won the hurdles in a time of 8.76 while 7.75 was her winning time in the 60m dash.

Shawana Smith won the 200m dash with a time of 25.64 while Crystal Jones captured the 400m dash in a time of 1:01.32 as the Panthers swept the sprints. The 4x400 relay team also picked up a win.

Kandace Arnold won the weight throw with a toss of 59'09.75 as she extended her current school record by winning the event.

On the men's side Zye Boey was solid in the sprints. He won the 200m for the second time this season with a time of 21.74. Boey was second in the 60m dash with a time 6.75.

Marcus Williams was second in the 400m dash with a time of 50.17 while Jason Springer won the mile run in a time of 4:22.63.

In field events Joe Noonan won the pole vault with a mark of 15'07". Former Panther athletes Dan Strackeljahn and Obe Eruteya won events as open competitors. Strackeljahn won the 3,000m run and Eruteya the high jump.

EIU will host the Illinois Intercollegiate next Saturday at Lantz Indoor Fieldhouse.
