EIU Track Hosts Mega Meet Saturday

CHARLESTON, Ill. – Eastern Illinois indoor track and field prepares to host one of its largest meets of the season when the Panthers compete in the EIU Mega Meet on Saturday at Lantz Indoor Fieldhouse. Currently 276 athletes are scheduled to compete in the all-day event.

The field events will start at 9 a.m. with the long jump and weight throw. Running events are slated for a 10:30 a.m. start with the 4x800 relay. The final events are scheduled to begin 6:25 with the 4x400 relay. An open 3K run will start following all regular events. The meet is a non-scoring event.

Athletes from the following schools and clubs are scheduled to compete on Saturday: Eastern Illinois, Chicago State, Greenville College, McKendree, Memphis, Rend Lake, Saint Louis, St. Xavier, Brooks/CTC, Illinois XC/Track Club, Indy’s Racing Cheetahs, and Untouchables.

Entering the event EIU has six male athletes who have posted the best mark to date in the OVC in their respective events. Freshman DeMarcus Brooks ran a 6.75 in the 60m while freshmanZye Boey won the 200m in a time of 21.94. Freshman Tyler Carter holds the OVC’s top mark in the 60m hurdles at 8.27. In field events Ian Winston has the best OVC high jump at 6’08.25” and Joe Noonan and Dorrian White have the best pole vault at 15’01”.

On the women’s side Shawana Smith holds two top OVC marks with a 7.64 in the 60m and 25.27 in the 200m. Chandra Golden has the top 60m hurdle time at 8.71. Bridget Sanchez has the top 400m mark with a 59.18. In field events Nicole Walcott is the OVC leader at 5’05” and Kandace Arnold tops the shot put list at 46’02.75”.
