Twelve First Place Finishes For EIU At ICE Dual

CHARLESTON, Ill. – Eastern Illinois men's and women's outdoor track and field hosted Indiana State on Saturday afternoon in the ICE Dual at O'Brien Field.  The Panthers posted 12 first place finishes in the abbreviated schedule with eight first place showings on the men's side and four on the women's side.

Erika Ramos was the lone Panther to post a mark on the EIU career top ten chart on Saturday as the junior won the 1,500m run with a time of 4:37.87 which ranks ninth on the EIU career list.

Emily Quinones earned a pair of gold medal finishes for EIU as she won the 100m dash and ran the anchor leg on the winning 4x400 relay team.  Quinones won the 100m with a time of 12.19.  She came from behind to win the 4x400 as the team finished with a time of 4:01.47.  She was joined by Janessa ClayAshley Brown and Bridget Sanchez on the relay team.

The EIU men's 4x400 relay team was also victorious with a winning time of 3:15.45.  The relay team was comprised of Stefan GorolJoe AugustineSean Wiggan and Cody Boarman.  Wiggan was the first place finisher in the men's 800m run with a winning time of 1:55.39.

The Panther men won four total individual running events.  Kaleel Johnson won the men's 100m with a time of 10.73.  Graham Morris won the men's 1500m with a time of 3:53.60 andDominique Hall won the men's 110m hurdles at 14.61.

In field events Maura Cummins was a first place finisher for the EIU women in the high jump.  Cummins cleared 5'5 to edge Indiana State's Rachael Johnson based on number of jumps.

The EIU men had three top finishes in field events.  Mick Viken opened the outdoor season passing the 17' barrier in the pole vault as he won the event with a mark of 17'2.75”.  Bryce Hogan won the long jump with a mark of 22'11.25”.  Senior Donald Romero had a solid day in throws winning the discus and placing second in the hammer.  Romero won the discus with a distance of 162'9”.  His second place mark in the hammer was 188'4”.

EIU will return to action next weekend when the Panthers host the Neil Moore Multi's and Big Blue Classic at O'Brien Field.
