Track Competes At SIUE Gateway Saturday

Panthers have five athletes ranked in the top 100 in the NCAA
 
CHARLESTON, Ill. – Eastern Illinois track and field will return to action this weekend with Saturday action at the SIU Edwardsville Gateway Invite.  The meet will begin at 1:30 p.m. with field events with running events set for a 2:30 p.m. start time.
 
EIU currently has two athletes that rank in the top 100 in the nation in multiple events with Jalisa Paramore and Calvin Edwards.  Three additional individuals and the men's 4x100 relay team also rank in the top 100 nationally.
 
Paramore was the OVC Female Field Athlete of the Week after placing first in both the long jump and 100m hurdles last weekend.  She ranks 23rd in the nation in the long jump becoming the second EIU female to break the 20' mark.  Paramore is ranked 84th in the nation in the 100m hurdles.
 
Edwards is ranked in the top 100 in both the 200m and 400m dash.  He ran the second leg on the men's 4x100 relay team that ranks 55th in the nation.  Edwards is 68th nationally in the 400m and 87th in the 200m.  He was joined on the 4x100 relay team by Christian Ilunga-MatthiesenJamal Robinson and Kaleel Johnson.
 
Daniel Trevor was named the OVC Male Track Athlete of the Week last week after winning the 110m hurdles and placing second in the 400m hurdles at the WKU Hilltopper Classic.  Trevor is ranked 85th in the nation 400m hurdles.
 
The Panthers have two athletes ranked in the top 20 in the nation in the pole vault.  Mick Viken holds the nation's number four mark after clearing 18' earlier this season. Peter Geraghty is currently ranked 16th in the nation in the pole vault.
 
In addition to the athletes EIU has ranked in the top 100 in the nation, the team has four other athletes that rank first in the Ohio Valley Conference in their respective events.  Amina Jackson is first in the OVC in the women's 400m hurdles.  Annemarie Reid and Lauralyn Rosenberger are both tied for first in the OVC in the women's pole vault.  Joe Calio owns the OVC's top mark this season in the steeplechase.
 
Senior Pablo Ramirez will travel across the nation this weekend to compete in the 10K at the Mt. Sac Relays in California.
 
Teams scheduled to compete in the SIUE Gateway Invite this weekend are Bradley, Chicago State, Drake, EIU, Indiana Tech, Jackson State, Missouri, Northern Iowa, St. Joseph's (Ind.), SIUE, Western Illinois and UW Milwaukee.
 
Next week EIU will host the Tuesday Tweener on April 22 at O'Brien Field while select athletes will travel to the Drake Relays.
