Track Hosts EIU Twilight On Friday

Eastern Illinois track and field returns to action this Friday as the Panthers host the EIU Twilight Meet.   Following Friday's action EIU will compete in the Ohio Valley Conference Championships May 13-14 at Tennessee State University in Nashville. 
 
Due to the number of entries field events will begin at 11 a.m. with running events slated for a 4 p.m. start.   Teams scheduled to compete include Eastern Illinois, SIU Edwardsville, Western Michigan (W), Knox College and Lincoln College. 
 
EIU had two athletes post EIU career top ten marks last week.  Ruth Garippo was named the OVC Female Track Athlete of the Week after placing 11th in the steeplechase at the Drake Relays.  Garippo's time of 10:51.95 is the second best in the OVC this season and ranks fourth on the EIU career list.   Janie Howse competed in throws at the Valpo Crusader Invite winning the hammer and placing second in the discus.  Her hammer throw of 170'7" ranks second on the EIU career list and third best in the OVC this year.
 
At the Drake Relays EIU had six top ten finishes over the three day event.  On Saturday Riley McInerney placed eighth in the steeplechase.   The men's 4x100m relay team placed sixth in the finals on Saturday with Johnathan BoeyJa'Marcus TownsendJamal Robinson and Christian Illunga-Matthiesen comprising the relay squad.   On FridayHaleigh Knapp placed seventh in the women's high jump while the women's 4x800m relay placed eighth running under the lights.  The women's relay team included Amy YeomanKristen ParisJulie James and Dhiaa Dean.   The Panthers opened the Drake Relays on Thursday night with Paris placing 10th in the women's unseeded 800m andMark Pedziwiatr placed fifth in the men's 800m unseeded race.
