Five First Place Finishes For EIU Friday Night

CHARLESTON, Ill. – Eastern Illinois indoor track and field posted five individual first place finishes and two relay wins as the Panthers hosted the Friday Night Special at Lantz Fieldhouse. The Panthers will play host to the Ohio Valley Conference Indoor Championships next Friday and Saturday. 

Zye Boey tuned up for the OVC meet running the 60m dash on Friday winning the event with a time of 6.71. Tyler Carter placed 4th at 6.95 and Chris Wright was 5th at 6.99. 

Darren Patterson, the OVC indoor athlete of the year last season, won the 200m dash with a time of 21.85. Cody Boarman was the first place finisher in the 400m at 50.51. 

Bridget Sanchez turned in another solid effort in the 200m dash winning the event with a time of 25.47. Emily Quinones was 4th at 25.83 and Jaida Moore 5th at 26.12. Quinones and Moore also posted top four finishes in the 60m dash. Quinones was 3rd at 7.79 while Moore was 4th at 7.82. 

Erika Foltys rounded out the individual EIU first place finishers winning the 600m at 1:38.11.Paige Biehler was 2nd at 1:38.19. 

Both the men’s and women’s 4x400 relay teams placed first. The women won at 3:55.84 while the men won with a time of 3:20.65. 

Three additional Panthers posted performances that landed in the EIU career top ten. Jill MacEachen placed 2nd in the 60m hurdles with a time of 8.92 which ranks 7th on the EIU career charts. Megan Gingerich placed 3rd in the 400m with a time of 57.72 which ranks 4th at EIU. Donald Romero was a 3rd place finisher in the weight throw with a mark of 57’4.25” which is 5th at EIU. 

Queenie AdeboyejoMichelle Hartnett and Tiffany Beachy rounded out the top five EIU women’s finsihers. Adeboyejo was 4th in the triple jump at 37’1.25”. Hartnett and Beachy both cleared 5’2.25” in the high jump but Hartnett was 4th and Beachy 5th based on number of jumps. 

The EIU men had five additional top five finishers in field events. Kris Gehrke was 4th in the high jump at 6’4”. Joe Noonan placed 4th in the pole vault and Mick Viken 5th as both cleared 16’8”. In the triple jump Tyler Allen was 3rd at 46’9” and Randolph Tribble was 4th at 46’1.25”. 

The top five men’s EIU finishers in track events included Danny Delaney with a 5th place finish in the 3000m at 8:44.87 and Ryan Ballard was 3rd in the 800m at 1:58.25. Lamarr Pottinger edged Tyler Carter at the line in the 60m hurdles with both posting a time of 8.09. Pottinger was 2nd and Carter 3rd. 

Chad Aubin led three runners in the 600m placing 2nd at 1:22.03. Wes Sheldon was 4th at 1:22.48 and Reid Basting was 5th at 1:23.47. Graham Morris was 2nd in the 1000m at 2:34.19 finishing just ahead of Connor Kustief who was 3rd at 2:35.51.
