Panthers compete in 35 team field

CHARLESTON, Ill. – Eastern Illinois men's and women's cross country returns to action this Friday as the Panthers compete in the Illinois Intercollegiate hosted by Illinois State at the Weibring Golf Course in Normal. The women's 5k begins at 5 p.m. followed by the men's 8K at 5:45 p.m.


EIU will be one of 35 teams on the women's side and 34 teams on the men's side competing in this year's meet. The field will include NCAA Division I entries from Bradley, Chicago State, Eastern Illinois, Illinois State, Illinois-Chicago and Loyola-Chicago.

The Panther men are coming off a first place finish in the Walt Crawford EIU Open as Bradley LaRocque was named the OVC Runner of the Week for his fourth place finish in the meet. Freshman Joe Calio was ninth in his first collegiate meet while freshman Bryce Bastingcrossed in 12th.

The EIU women were second at the season opening Walt Crawford EIU Open as Olivia Klauswas second among collegiate finishers posting the tenth fastest 5K time by an EIU women's runner in school history. Erika Ramos and Britney Whitehead also posted top 15 finishes for the Panthers.

Following the Illinois Intercollegiate the Panthers will be off for two weeks before competing in the Notre Dame Meyo Invite on Sept. 30.
