LaRocque, Klaus Lead EIU To Top 5 Finishes

Panthers solid in Illinois Intercollegiate Meet

NORMAL, Ill. - Eastern Illinois placed third on the men's side and fourth on the women's side among NCAA Division I schools as the Panthers wrapped up competition Friday evening at the Illinois Intercollegiate. 

Bradley LaRocque paced the men's team finishing sixth overall and third among NCAA Division I runners with an 8K time of 24:45. The EIU men's team had 63 points finishing behind Loyola-Chicago (32 points) and Illinois-Chicago (54 points) among the Division I schools. North Central College won the overall men's meet as the Panthers finished fourth overall.

Olivia Klaus led the EIU women's group finishing sixth among all competitors with a time of 17:57. The Panthers posted a team total of 80 points to finish in fourth place among all teams behind host Illinois State (21 points), Bradley (68 points) and Loyola-Chicago (72 points). 

Freshman Bryce Basting posted a top 20 time with a mark of 25:00 to place 16th. Victor DelatorreDanny Delaney and Matt Feldhake rounded out the Panthers scoring points in the meet while Ryan Ballard and Graham Morris were EIU's sixth and seventh place runners.

Delatorre covered the 8K course in a time of 25:27 to place 43rd. Delaney and Feldhake were separated by one second with Delaney crossing at 25:32 in 49th place and Feldhake at 25:33 in 51st. Ballard was 65th at 25:42 and Morris 67th at 25:43.

On the women's side Erika Ramos was a top 20 finisher in 18th with a 5K time of 18:22.Gabriela Duenas was 29th at 18:39. Britney Whitehead and Megan Gingerich rounded out the top five EIU runners scoring points. Caitlin Napoleoni was sixth among EIU runners whilePaige Biehler beat out freshman Chelsea Sondgeroth as the seventh and eighth Panthers to cross the line.

Whitehead and Gingerich both had times of 18:42 as the crossed in 33rd and 34th place. Napoleoni was 38th at 18:44. Biehler and Sondgeroth both had times of 19:03 placing 49th and 50th.

EIU returns to action in two weeks as the compete at the Notre Dame Gold Invite on Friday, Sept. 30 in South Bend, Ind.
